The Women’s National Housing and Homelessness Network is committed to fostering a safe and respectful space when we gather together with allies and partners. When we come together, we are all committing to uphold this Respectful Space Agreement.
We are gathering to share stories, listen to one another, and explore ways to strengthen relationships and build greater understanding across cultures and communities. Everyone bring different experiences, histories, and perspectives. Some may have experienced homelessness, racism, displacement, colonization, migration, or other forms of trauma and discrimination.
This gathering is guided by Indigenous leadership and is grounded in respect, cultural safety, and shared learning. The purpose of this agreement is to help create a space where everyone feels welcome, heard, and respected.
Our Shared Commitments:
Respect All Voices – Every person brings valuable experiences and knowledge. We listen with respect and without judgment.
Speak From Your Own Experience – Share what feels comfortable using your own experiences and perspectives.
Listen to Understand – Listen with curiosity and openness rather than to debate or respond.
One Person Speaks at a Time – Please be mindful of time so that everyone has an opportunity to contribute.
The Right to Pass – You may choose not to answer any question or participate in any activity.
Take Care of Yourself – You are welcome to take a break, step outside, or seek support at any time.
Confidentiality – Stories shared in the circle are gifts. Please do not share personal details or identify who said what outside the gathering.
Expect and Accept Discomfort – Conversations about homelessness, discrimination, and lived experiences may be emotional or challenging. We ask everyone to approach one another with patience and humility.
Learn and Repair – We may make mistakes. When harm occurs, we commit to listening, learning, and making things right.
A Shared Responsibility:
Creating a respectful and culturally safe space is a shared responsibility. We each play a role in listening carefully, reflecting on our own assumptions, and treating one another with dignity and care.
If you experience or witness behaviour that feels harmful or disrespectful, please speak with a member of the WNHHN team.
Thank you for your participation and for sharing your experiences, stories, and wisdom.
